• The Right to Privacy & the Protection of Personal Data
  A position statement from the Building Trust in eGovernment Working Group. BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT, has grave concerns about the erosion of UK citizens’ fundamental right to privacy, the protection of their personal data and the role of, and public confidence in, the State to protect those rights.
• BCS statement
  BCS believes that there is a need for culture change in the handling of all personal data.
• The British Computer Society's (BCS) Concerns about the Data Sharing Implications of the Coroners and Justice Bill
  Buried in the government's Coroners and Justice Bill are proposals to make very significant changes to the Data Protection Act (DPA) 1998.
• The Data Sharing Review
  The BCS welcomes the Data Sharing Review by Richard Thomas and Mark Walport, and recognises the major contribution that this represents. As part of the BCS work on Trustworthy e-Government this review will be examined in detail, and a more detailed response will be published in the near future.
• International Perceptions of the UK Research Base in Information and Communications Technologies
  The 2006 ICT International Review Panel completed a week long review of ICT research throughout the United Kingdom. This document presents the perceptions and recommendations of the review.
• The software development industry
  BCS formed part of a working party which has produced a report looking at the current situation and identified actions needed to maintain a thriving software development industry in the UK.
• Embracing the challenge, exploiting the opportunities: Building a world class IT profession in the era of global sourcing
  The report sets the scene by looking at the latest developments in globalization, building on the findings of the November 2004 report, also compiled by the BCS Working Party on Offshoring.
• BCS position on offshore outsourcing
  We are witnessing a major shift in the global IT services industry. Countries such as India, Ireland, Russia and South Africa are developing IT service industries and the offshore outsourcing market is growing rapidly.
• Health Informatics: Radical Steps
  Following the Radical Steps meeting in February 2004, key professionals from Health Informatics met and the BCS Health Informatics Committee and ASSIST produced the Radical Steps 2004 report.
• The challenges of complex IT projects
  This study, conducted by a group of Fellows of The Royal Academy of Engineering and BCS, seeks to improve the understanding of how complex IT projects differ from other engineering projects, with a view to identifying ways to augment the successful delivery of IT projects.
• Position paper on the forensic examination of child pornography
  BCS welcomes the release of the new ACPO Guidelines on Rules of Evidence for Computer Based Crime, but has concern about one particular aspect of the document which relates to the rules of evidence in child pornography cases.
• eCrime
  BCS wishes to participate in the continual change to, and interpretation of, the law and the processes of investigation and prosecution to take account of the increasing use of computers in society.
• Linkage between Internal Control and InfoSec
  The creation of an Internal Control system is necessary for the management of an organisation to implement its mission. All organisations need some procedures to operate and compliance with appropriate parts of the Corporate Governance requirements is recommended.
