Keeping the device drivers on a computer up to date is very important. Some drivers are updated often, while others not so much. This guide will go over some basic steps to help you find out if drivers need updating and how to install them if so.
Edit Steps
- 1Right click on 'Computer' or 'My Computer' for older operating systems.
- 2Click 'Manage'
- 3Select 'Device Manager' from the menu on the left
- 4Select the device you wish to check the driver information for
- 5Right click the device and click 'Properties'
- 6Go to the 'Driver' tab and it will have the provider, date, driver version and what company signed the driver
- 7From there you can let windows search for any driver updates by clicking 'Update Driver' then selecting 'Search automatically for updated driver software'
- 8Another option is to find the manufacturer's website and look for the most up to date drivers they have available to download. Repeat steps 1 - 6 and compare the driver versions.
- 9If the manufacturer's website has a newer one available than what is installed, download it and install it.
Edit Warnings
- If for some reason the device doesn't work correctly after the driver update, you can roll back the drivers to the last one installed. To do this, repeat steps 1 - 6 and click 'Roll Back Driver'
