The operating system is an integral layer in the modern computer.
An operating system is the basic piece of software that kicks in when you start the computer. It extends the functionality of the computer, i.e. it provides a platform from which other programmes can work. It supplies users with words and images so that they can get other applications (or programmes) to run.
Objectives [edit]
Objectives for the using an operating system portion of IC3 certification include:[2]
- Identify what an operating system is and how it works, and solve common problems related to operating systems
- Use an operating system to manipulate a computer’s desktop, files and disks
- Identify how to change system settings, install and remove software
Types of Operating System [edit]
Operating systems can be categorized by:
- technology.
- ownership.
- Open Source Operating Systems
- Propriety Operating Systems
- licensing.
- working state.
- usage.
and by many other characteristics,which known as types of operating system.In practice, many of these classification may overlap.
