R Adams Cowley, the founder of the Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center and a pioneer in the practice of modern-day trauma medicine, was nominated by members of Maryland's Congressional delegation for the Congressional Gold Medal -- the highest expression of appreciation for distinguished achievements and contributions to society.
