How to Win in a Fight Against a Tae Kwon Do User (Using Muay Thai)
Edited by Mistassailant5, Teresa, Frixeon
Tae Kwon Do is one of the most popular martial arts in the world and there are many practitioners of this art in many countries, also, this is one of only two martial arts used in the Olympics. However, using Muay Thai you can overpower a Tae Kwon Do user if you follow these guidelines. (Note: Those reading the article should have a basic understanding of the fundamentals of Muay Thai)
Edit Steps
- 1Footwork. Footwork is a fundamental part of any martial art, but against a Tae Kwon Do user who throws a lot of kicks, your going to want to move around more.
- 2Keep your Guard Up. My suggestion would be try to evade the kicks, but if you do not have time to evade, make sure your guard is ready to be put up. It may hurt from blocking a kick, but it is better then the kick landing in your ribs or on your head.
- 3Close the Gap. When evading the kicks you should not move back, on the contrary you should try to advance. Kicks are only so effective from a limited range, if you can close the gap quickly you will be in the perfect distance in which Muay Thai is most effective.
- 4Elbows and Knees. The unique moves to Muay Thai, the elbows and knees. These are very destructive attacks that are very effective at close range. These moves should be the main weapon against a Tae Kwon Do user.
- 5The Clinch. Another thing almost unique to Muay Thai, the clinch or the plum. This is not only effective against Tae Kwon Do users, this is effective against almost all arts. Use your superior technique and positioning in the clinch to take down your opponent.
- 6Attack the Legs. The legs are the most important part of any martial art, but since Tae Kwon Do is almost all leg power, it is very critical to try to damage the legs. If a leg on a kicking user is damaged, his kicks with either of his legs will become much less effective.
- 7Attack the Ribs. This is the same idea as attacking the legs, to lower the effectiveness of th kicks. In all martial arts, most strike's power come from rotation of the torso. Damaging the ribs will lessen the effect of the turn.
- 8Use Speed to your Advantage. Kicks are not necessarily fast moves. They require a planting leg, the chamber, the kick, and the recovery. Moving in close and throwing a couple of fast elbows will be able to damage him much quicker then he can damage you.
- 9Use your Instincts. While fighting, the basic principle is to just remain calm and trust your fighting instincts, they will help you get through the battle.
Edit Tips
- Always keep yourself in a good stance, the most important thing in any art is a solid stance.
- Keep yourself in good shape, it will not be good if your strikes are weak or you have low endurance.
