Project:Requests

Use this page for requests for:

  • Renaming
  • Promotion (to administrator, bot, bureaucrat, etc.)
  • Anything else bureaucrats are needed for (is there anything?)

One thing to keep in mind is that unlike most Wikimedia sites, this site is controlled by the MediaWiki developers, not its own community. Being a developer (someone with commit access who uses it to maintain code that runs on Wikimedia sites) automatically entitles you to at least administrator status, and a long-time developer won't find it hard to become a bureaucrat. If you're not a developer, you do have to give some good reason to get any privileges; you should not expect to ever be made a bureaucrat; and if you are, you might want to stick to renames and leave promotions to developers. Something like a third of administrators and a quarter of bureaucrats are non-developers, however, so it's not like you shouldn't bother asking.

That said, there aren't really any formal policies on what's required: you just have to convince a bureaucrat. Use common sense―if you're trustworthy and your services are in need, there's no reason not to promote you to administrator at least, but don't ask for administrator without giving a concrete reason (unless you're a developer). Being personally known to a developer or having administrator or higher status on a major Wikimedia project are two ways to be deemed trustworthy.

Asking for transwiki, bot, or a rename is fine without demonstrating that you're trustworthy, since those can be revoked/reverted at will and don't do much anyway.

User:Chrumps [edit]

Requested user-rights: Editor.

I do some translations here, but many of them are still unreviewed. Translator in wikidata, also active on TranslateWiki.net. Sysop in pl.wiki, so familiar with FlaggedRevs. --Chrumps (talk) 00:24, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

Inquisitor Ehrenstein [edit]

I am currently an editor and I have been contributing here for about a year, and have reverted vandalism edits, tagged spam pages for deletion, and written a few articles. I have also created several wikis, and I am familiar with the the sysop tools and interface. I also assume good faith, and give the user of an unproductive or mildly disruptive edit a warning that their edit was disruptive before blocking them. I also have developed access (I recently uploaded the files for one of the extensions I created) and I am currently starting a project to develop new Vector based skins for the benefit of wiki sysadmins who want a different Vector skin from the standard one, which would be more appropriate for their wikis. As an administrator, I would also be open to requests from other users if a particular page was a vandalism target and needed protection, or if a page needed to be deleted. For protection, I understand the convention that most pages should be protected for the minimum amount of time necessary, with the lowest level of protection necessary.

I've also got significantly better at writing in German in the past few months, if there's a need for administrators in the German section of the wiki. I tried to look to see if there's a way to see if there's a list of administrators by language section.

Oppose Oppose - I have had pretty good interactions with you, but I think you've been doing a few eccentric things like making your own tagging system, which makes me have doubts about your maturity. --Jasper Deng (talk) 01:12, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
If it's the same tag I'm thinking of, they were deleted and I just use the regular deletion tag. ఠ_ఠ Inquisitor Sasha Ehrenstein des Sturmkrieg Sector (Talk) (Contr) 02:28, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
Well, administrator access requires maturity. I really did not like this - this is part of what I mean by "maturity".--Jasper Deng (talk) 03:00, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
I've learned from that, and I ignore things like that if I see them. I also a lot more cautious about tagging non English spam pages, since once it turned out it was just a user page that said "funny page" in a cyrillic language. I've learned to be a lot more conservative. ఠ_ఠ Inquisitor Sasha Ehrenstein des Sturmkrieg Sector (Talk) (Contr) 03:32, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
Support Support - Taking you at your word for above, but in my interactions with you have seemed trustworthy. -- MarkAHershberger(talk) 11:38, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
Oppose Oppose I was orginally going to abstain from commenting on this one, But I have decided to oppose due to the prior interactions (as Jasper has already linked to the part that isn't deleted), and Having a look at the deleted user contribs don't show much in-regards to anti-spam matters, In addition the request doesn't make much use case for needing the rights apart from the "blog-standard" reasons and I'm already known on my views about just handing them out for people to deal with matters such as spam and page protection. Peachey88 (talk) 11:44, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
Oppose Oppose for many of the same reasons as Peachey88 -- looking through your contribs I see a lot of support desk activity (which is great but you don't need +sysop for that), and some otherwise questionable edits that indicate you aren't fully aware of how the site actually works (putting user scripts in Manual and personal projects in the main namespace -- these should probably go under either Extension or a User sub-page). This coupled with lack of any good reason for actually wanting admin makes me oppose this request. --Skizzerz 02:56, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

It looks like this is a X mark.svg Not done then. --Krenair (talkcontribs) 16:41, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

Since there aren't many votes, is it alright if I direct people here, or is that not ok since people might abuse it by directing people who would vote for them? ఠ_ఠ Inquisitor Sasha Ehrenstein des Sturmkrieg Sector (Talk) (Contr) 21:02, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

Whilst we don't have a policy about canvassing here on mw wiki, We don't do rights requests as voting per say, We judge the comments people make, not the number of votes (eg: 1 strongly written oppose can easily topple several supports). Peachey88 (talk) 11:44, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

User:Shirayuki [edit]

Requested user-rights: Editor.

I have done heap of changes to Japanese pages, but some of them still need to be checked. I am an active translator on translatewiki.net, also in Wikidata, MediaWiki.org, etc. -Shirayuki (talk) 21:21, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

  • Support Support Seems to have made contributions and is a regular contributor. ఠ_ఠ Inquisitor Sasha Ehrenstein des Sturmkrieg Sector (Talk) (Contr) 22:51, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
  • Support Support From what I have seen from him I have no objections at all. I guess he is not just a great member of the Japanese MediaWiki community. --[[kgh]] (talk) 08:45, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
  • Support Support I’ve just looked upon some of the contribs (the changes looks good to me, so I marked some of them as sighted) and just had the idea to request this right for him*her here. ;-) There are many contribs here with Japanese translations and others, so it would be great, if nobody had to check the edits anymore and (s)he can do this her*himself – especially also the many contribs (s)he has already made here, and (s)he has made many experience with translations at translatewiki, too (more than 40,000 edits there, and more than 3,000 here already). This request is open since 18 days now, so it would be great, if someone would grant this user the right now. :-) And if you take a look at [1], there are many Japanese translations pending since up to 3 weeks now, so that you nearly can’t see anything else anymore there, and there aren’t so many Japanese speakers around who can regularly mark everything of that. --Geitost diskusjon 11:58, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

Requests for renames [edit]

Information on how renames work is available on Wikipedia., Archives: 2013 (Previous years).

Example request:

=== Oldname → Newname ===
I'd like to change my username to "Newname" because that's the
username I use on other projects. Thanks! - ~~~~

MD Webbureau → Firtinaam [edit]

I'd like to change my username to "Firtinaam" because MD Webbureau is my company name, but i see that isnt good. So i would like to change it. Thank you. - MD Webbureau (talk) 11:55, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

I have seen your requests on other wikis declined due to the fact that you could create another account. Whether that's common practice here, I don't know, but I'm leaning a bit toward declining this request pending comment from others.--Jasper Deng (talk) 02:43, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
I don't see a reason not to do it. Peachey88 (talk) 03:30, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
I would ignore what has happened on other wikis, except that if I rename the user, it might cause SUL problems, as from m:Meta:Changing username, it appears that he might accept the advice to just create another account. If another bureaucrat disagrees, I wouldn't complain. It's just my own personal doubts. If I don't see him respond to the request on Meta soon (on whether he'll take the advice), I'll do it.--Jasper Deng (talk) 04:00, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

VolodymyrF → Володимир Ф [edit]

I'd like to change my username to "Володимир Ф" because that's the username I use on other projects. Thanks! - VolodymyrF (talk) 09:16, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

Yes check.svg Done--Jasper Deng (talk) 22:19, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
