Make a Sensor Bar

As a primary pointing device, the Wii Remote is used to navigate around the Wii menus by pointing at the screen.

The Wii Remote has a "IR camera" which picks up IR light. Then the data is sent to the Wii Console, so that on the TV it outputs a little cursor which is used for pointing and navigating around.

Actually the Wii Sensor Bar is not a Sensor, but it actually gives off IR light.

Candles also give off IR light, This will show you how to make your own Sensor Bar.

Edit Steps

  1. 1
Remove all things that are on top of the TV.
  2. 2
Unplug all Sensor Bars currently plugged into the Wii.
  3. 3
Get one candle and light it.
  4. 4
Grab a coaster or a plate and place the candle on top.
  5. 5
Carefully place the candle and coaster on top of the TV.
  6. 6
Power your Wii and TV, and you should see the pointing cursor in the System Menu.
    • If the candle runs out, you may need to replace it again.

Edit Tips

  • Cursor flickering is normal. If it does happen, try to make sure that there is no wind or air blowing the candle. Also, you can change the candle if necessary.
  • When you are finished playing, always make sure that you blow the candle out.
  • Try to use long candles, so that it won't run out as quickly.

Edit Warnings

  • Don't knock down the candle! It will catch on fire.
  • Place the candle in a secure place.
  • Use your common sense and fire safety rules.

Edit Things You'll Need

  • A candle
  • A lighter (or match)
  • A Wii and Wii remote
  • A coaster to put the candle on.
