How to Keep in Touch With Family
Edited by Katiebug98, Tarun Parwani, Harri, Anson S and 4 others
Whether you're studying abroad, just moved out or simply on vacation, keeping in touch with the folks back home is vital to everyone.
Edit Steps
- 1Take advantage of technology. We have Facebook and Twitter and Skype and of course, the cell phone. Dozens of ways to keep in touch electronically. Even an email can show you care, although a phone call might mean more.
- 2Always ask how things are going. They're going to want to let you know what's up, any big news in the family. Important things.
- 3Stay connected with the little ones. Any younger siblings you have require special attention, because they haven't known you as long as your parents and might not even know/understand why you're gone.
- 4Go classic with the hand-written letter. Especially if parents are older, it warms their heart to get a true, honest-to-God letter from you.
- 5Update them with any important news. What's going on in your life- they want to know. Even the small things that happen to you could mean a lot to people who miss you.
- 6See them in person! No matter how far away you are, you've got to make time to come back and visit them for real!
Edit Tips
- If you can't talk to your whole family at once, be sure to ask how everyone else is.
- Smile when you see them!
- Video chat is very useful- you can hear the voice and see the face!
- Remember that it shouldn't always be a text message or an email. Calling is nice, too.
- If you are busy, let them know. It will prevent them from worrying about you.
