Images enhance the presentation of our articles and make it easier for others to learn. They clarify and illustrate text.

Edit Steps

    Click on the Edit tab at the top of the article you've chosen.

    Click on the "Add Image to Steps" button, or the Image icon (in Advanced Editor).
    • In the Guided Editor, you'll find it under the relevant section.
    • In the Advanced Editor, you'll find it at the top of the window.

    Choose the step that you want to add the picture to.

    Search for photos we already have permission to use on Flickr and Wikimedia.

    Alternatively, click the "Browse" button to upload a photo you have saved on your computer. Note that this should be a photo you've created, not one you found on another website.

    Assign the appropriate license to the image. Select it from the drop-down menu. If asked, provide the source information.

    Determine the size, layout and caption of the image.
    • Selecting "Automatic" will optimize the image size based on its location in the page.
    • To adjust the size of an image, click on "Manual" and move the slider from side to side.
    • You can also select the layout/text-wrapping (right-aligned or beneath text).
    • Add a caption, if desired. It will appear beneath the image.

    Click on Insert File.

    Click on Done to return to the Edit page of your article.

    Adjust the image code further, if you'd like. You may want to change the alignment or size more after you've finished editing and previewing the page.

    Click on Publish, at the bottom of a page, to save your changes.

  • Only registered editors are allowed to import or upload images.
  • For questions, contact the Help Team or post in the Forum.
  • Do not use animated images.
