Edited by Chris, Teresa, Steve
Ever need the text inside a Kindle 2's book spoken to you (such as the feeling of reading a Kindle book like an audiobook)? With a Kindle, it's completely possible. Use this article to find out how to turn on this option on your device.
Edit Steps
-
1Turn on your Kindle device.Ad
-
2Press the Home key on your device, to ensure you are back at the Kindle device's Home screen.
-
3Open any book that you have downloaded to the device for reading. Use the 5-way selector to move between the downloaded books.
-
4Locate the text-size button on your device. It should look like two capital-letter A's (of increasing size) and should be situated one button to the right of the Kindle's space bar.
-
5Use the 5-way selector's up and down arrow keys to move the selection on the screen to where the label is called "Text-to-Speech" and has a default value of "Turn on".
-
6Press the Select button inside the 5-way selector to turn this spoken text on.Ad
Edit Tips
- If you ever need to pause the voice in a book, press the capital letters A's again and press the Select button, as, by default the option is highlighted.
- Turning off Text-to Speech is just as easy. Press the capital A's letter again, and the "Turn on" should now be replaced with "Turn off".
- Changing the voice of the narrator is also found on this menu.
- If you need the menu options on the Kindle's Home screen spoken to you, Voice Guide (from the Kindle's settings) can be turned on and can help read the selections to you. These two settings are entirely different on your device.
Edit Warnings
- When you turn on Text-to-Speech on a Kindle 2, you effectively are pausing the ability to take notes, make highlights and share passages from your Kindle. So use the Text-to-Speech selection with care.
