Weaving the web of links adds access, within the context of an article, to another page within wikiHow. Linking pages allows readers to easily browse the site to dig deeper into a subject. Reading this article will explain how to weave articles on wikiHow.

EditMethod 1 of 3: Guided Editor Method

    Click on the Edit tab at the top of an article.

    Highlight the word or phrase you wish to link. Then click "Weave Links."

    • Then enter your new search terms and click "Search."

    Select your desired title. Click on the title itself to "weave" the link.
    • If none of them seem right, click on "No Thanks" to exit the window.

    • Click on "No Thanks" or press the escape key on your keyboard if none of the results are related to your article.

    Click on the "Edit" tab at the top of an article.

    Use wiki syntax to make your links:
    • You can do an internal wiki link to your chosen title. For example: [[Launch Spitballs]] to make Launch Spitballs.
    • You can also use include a different term to display as your link. For example: [[Launch Spitballs|this]] creates this.
    • You can also use a full URL to make a link. For example: [http://www.wikihow.com/Launch-Spitballs this link] makes this link.

    Double check that your links work right. If you do not get the wording of the article name and capitalization just right, it will not go to the article that you want. If the links are correct, they should appear green in Preview mode and open up to your chosen article when clicked.

    Add an edit summary and click "Publish" at the bottom of the article.

  • Do not weave every word or phrase that has a related wikiHow article.
  • There are no limits to how many links can be woven per article, but use good judgement.
  • Do not weave words for the purpose of highlighting. Use wiki syntax for italics or to embolden.
  • Weave links that are specifically relevant to the major concept of an article.
  • Add links that may give a more thorough description of a certain aspect.
  • Do not add links that are unrelated to context as these may confuse the reader.

    • Example: Do not weave How to Be Funny if the word "funny" implies odd or unusual.
  • If links are somewhat related and are still helpful to the reader, add them to the "Related wikiHows" section at the bottom of the article.
  • The articles you weave don't have to have achieved excellence in either becoming a Rising Star or being a Featured Article, but it's always safer to weave-in an article you have personally checked -- or that has one of those quality designations.
    • A star and "Featured Article" appear near the bottom right of the article page.
    • Rising Star articles are so designated on the top of its discussion page.
