How to Save an Article from NFD
Edited by Cal, KnowItSome, Glutted, Nancy Shaw and 23 others
Oh no! Your article was nominated for deletion. You can either wait around and let it be deleted or you can attempt to save it!
EditSteps
-
1Find out why your article is being nominated for deletion. Any wikiHow user can nominate, and will have put their reasons on the discussion page, or right smack dab on the top of your article. Feel free to write to them on their talk page if you need clarifications or if no reasons were given for the NFD.
-
2Decide if your article is worth saving. It might not be appropriate for wikiHow, or there might already be a similar article. Read the Writer's Guide, the wikiHow deletion policy, and How to Understand What wikiHow Is Not. Knowledge is power. If you believe your article doesn't violate wikiHow rules and policies and feel prepared to explain why clearly and cooperatively, then move on to the next step.
-
3Improve or rewrite your article. You can either start from scratch, or fix it a little bit at a time. If you leave it in its present form, it may well be deleted. Make sure it is correctly formatted and that everything in the article is appropriate for wikiHow. Address the concerns raised in the discussion page as to why the article is up for deletion. Ask for help from an experienced editor who's familiar with wikiHow policies. Don't remove the NFD tag, though.
-
4Post on the discussion page. Talk about how you improved your article and why you are against deletion. Be polite, specific, and open-minded.
-
5Get support. Ask other wikiHow users to offer their opinions on deletion and ask them if there's any way your article can be changed to comply with wikiHow rules. Have them leave comments on the discussion page.
-
6Suggest alternatives if deletion is imminent.
- Consider a title change if it is being argued that your article is too similar to another article on wikiHow. However, if your suggested title isn't distinct enough as described by the merge policy, this will not work.
- Suggest merging. The title will be different and you won't be listed as the original author, but at least the valuable knowledge you contributed will probably be transferred into the existing article on the topic and your information won't be completely erased.
-
7See what happens. If you do all this, unless your topic is completely inappropriate, such as how to kill someone, your article will have a better chance of remaining on wikiHow.
-
8Take precautions next time. Read How to Create a wikiHow Article That Won't Be Nominated for Deletion before writing your next article.
