If you have 10 minutes, a little rope and a old vase you can create a rope bottle vase in no time. Transform the vase into something new, hip and casual using a bit of glue and different colored sisal rope and polypropylene cord.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Choose Supplies
-
1Identify a vase you’d like to re-purpose into your rope vase. The vase doesn't have to be glass or clear as you will be covering it with rope and cord. Take into consideration the vase size as compared to the amount of rope and cord you will ultimately need.
- Consider using an old soda or beer bottle as your “vase” if you don’t have one you can transform. Nearly any bottle that can be used to hold flowers or plants can be used for this project.

2Pick up sisal rope (natural color) and colored polypropylene cord. Depending on how you plan to design the vase you may only want a splash of cord color so determine the amount of cord as compared to rope.
- Bring the vase (if possible) with you when choosing the rope and cord. This will allow you to determine the amount and style of rope and cord.
-
3Dig out your hot glue gun and find your sharpest pair of scissors. Make sure you have plenty of glue sticks on hand for quick additions if needed.
Method 2 of 2: Create Rope Vase
-
1Clean and prepare the vase. If you are using a bottle, remove the label and clean the interior and exterior of the bottle. Use mild dish soap and warm water to clean the bottle.
- Allow for ample dry time before adding rope and cord. Make sure the inside of the bottle is also completely dry.
-
2Add a dab of hot glue to the top of the vase and begin to wrap your rope. Add dabs of glue as you wind around the bottle.
- Cut the rope and glue in place when you are ready to add the colorful cord.
- Push and re-position rope or cord if rope starts to sag or you see gaps as you work.
-
3Glue the cord directly next to where the rope ended and continue the process of wrapping and gluing as you work you way downward.
- Cut and continue with cord and rope to create the desired design. Be sure you secure the last piece of cord or rope securely toward the bottom end of the bottle.
