How to Write a Note Commending Library Staff
Edited by Ben Rubenstein, Flickety, KnowItSome, Sondra C and 5 others
Library staff often work tireless hours and late nights, with little compensation. When you have an encounter with a librarian who excels, he or she should be commended. Here's what to put in a letter of commendation, and how to address it.
EditSteps
-
1Describe your visit to the library. Be specific about what it was that caught your attention. Was the librarian particularly helpful in guiding you to a new fiction book? Did she help your clueless son with the Apatosaurus research project which was due today and which he only mentioned to you yesterday?Ad
-
2Name the librarian in your letter.
-
3Specify the day and date of your visit, as well as the approximate hour at which you were there.
-
4Address the letter to the Director of the Library. The Director is the person with all of the power, who may even be able to recommend a raise for this employee. At the very least, a copy will be put in his/her personnel record.
-
5Tell the staff member in person about how wonderful their service is and how much you appreciate it.Ad
EditTips
- Be sure and find out the name of the librarian while you are at the library. This way you will know what name to put in the letter. The librarian may be wearing a name tag, or may have a business card to give you.
