Once a wikiHow article has been translated from one language to another (e.g., from English to Spanish), it is important to make sure that you cross-link between each translated version of the article so that readers of one version know that it exists in other languages (This is also knows as adding interwiki links). Follow these simple steps to cross-link translated articles.

    Translate the article.

    Click on the "Edit" tab

    Click on the "Advanced Editing" button. Be sure to save any changes before doing this or they will be lost.

    Scroll down to the bottom of the translation.

    • Immediately after the article, add this text to link back to English: [[en:Your Article Title here]].
    • Save your changes. See the image below to see a cross link being added to English from Portuguese for the translated version of How to Make a Network Cable.

    Return to the English version of the article, click on the "Edit" tab, then click on the "Advanced Editing" button.

    • Scroll down to the bottom of the text.
    • Immediately after the article, add this text to link back to the language to which you translated the article (this example text shows how to link back to Portuguese. See "Tips" for other language codes) [[pt:Insert the name of the article you translated]].
    • Save your changes. See the image below to see a cross link being added to Portuguese from English for the translated article How to Make a Network Cable.

    Repeat this process if the article is translated to other languages to make sure that all translated versions of the article are interlinked.

  • Do not include the "How to" or its translated version in your link.
  • Capitalization must match the target article exactly.
  • Use these language codes to link between the different language versions of wikiHow:

    • AR - Arabic
    • DE - German
    • EN - English
    • ES - Spanish
    • HE - Hebrew
    • FR - French
    • NL - Dutch
    • PT - Portuguese
    • PL - Polish
    • ZH - Chinese
  • Check if the interwiki links are working correctly.
