There are many ways to reduce the stress of moving so you can actually enjoy the moment, look forward to the change and know that this move is a positive and rewarding experience. Here is a time line we have put together that will help you reduce the stress to a minimum.

1Two Month Prior: Begin your moving process
- One of the first steps is to be sure to contact your moving company to confirm your move date. They should also have your correct address and the cost estimate for you move.
- A very important part to moving is collecting boxes and packaging supplies. This is a necessity in protecting your items and making your move with ease.
- Decide which clothes, papers, books, and toys you will take. Help someone out by donating what you do not want or have a garage sell.
- Keep valuable items out of the way so they are not transported accidentally by your movers.
- Keep all of your moving receipts. Many of these are tax deductibles. Contact the IRS or visit the website for more information
- Get to know your community. You will need to know about the schools, local job market, churches, and medical providers.
- Know the requirements for drivers license and auto registration requirements in your new city/state.
- Get ahead by transferring records to the new school. Transfer your home owner, flood, and automobile policies.

2One Month away. Check, Check, Check off Your List!
- If you are having a moving company pack for you and you have not contacted them yet, DO IT NOW!
- Be sure that you have all of the packaging materials you need. It will save you a lot of frustration.
- Make arrangements with your phone, cable, and electric companies for disconnection and reconnection.
- Change your address and notify family and friends, insurance companies, banks, credit card companies, student loan companies, magazine and newspaper subscriptions.

3Two weeks out from the big day. Time is moving, is your check off list?
- If you have not already, tell your moving company about any large items. Confirm the date and time.

4One More week to go. No one has time for last minute interruptions!
- Are all of your boxes marked for packaging and shipping?
- The items that are being moved by the company should be separated from the ones you are personally moving.
- Pack your suitcase. The things that you will need your first night should be in its own box and marked.
- What is your method of payment with the movers?
- Empty and defrost your refrigerator. Empty cabinets and pantry.

5Moving Out to Moving in.
- Be there when the movers arrive. If someone else will be there in your place, notify the movers.
- Go over all of the paper work with the movers
- The movers should have your contact information should they need to reach you during the transit.
- The driver may need directions to your new home.
- Make sure the house that you are leaving is as clean as possible.
- Have taken all of your items?
- Turn all of your keys over to the real estate agent or new owner.
- Your utilities should be cut off.

6Moving Day, it's time to make the move.
- Know your floor plan so that you can tell the movers where to put your furniture.
- If you have any missing items be sure to notify the movers before signing papers.
- Get a baby sitter for children and keep pets out of the way for movers.
- Make sure you are prepared for payment upon delivery. It is required.
