Every decent DBA ought to know how to patch his /her database. This is a stub, I'll work on it more later

Edit Steps

    Search meta-link for your patch and anything that supersedes it. Download the patch be aware that patches can be as big as 4 GB!

    Read the included "readme files".
  3. 3
    Run through all the steps in the readme... but do it on your test machine first, OK?

The main steps include

  1. 1
    Stopping all Oracle processes which belong to current $ORACLE_HOME.
  2. 2
    Backing up the database, Oracle Inventory and the $ORACLE_HOME tree.
  3. 3
    Checking the patch file size and unzipping if it is correct.
  4. 4
    Running opatch/runInstaller to finalize the patching process.
