How to Calculate Fractions

Fractions do not have to be scary. If you know the basic steps, you will be able to calculate the sums correctly, every time. Here follows an explanation of a simple fraction sum.
Steps
-
1Know the parts of the fraction. The number at the top is called the numerator. The number at the bottom is called the denominator. The line in between is called the dividing line.Ad
-
2Write the sum out neatly. Do not try and cram it in on one line, rather write it out over two lines. The neater your work, the less calculation errors you are bound to make.
-
3Now add the numerators together (the numbers at the top). For example: If the sum is 1/5+2/5 you should write down 3 as the numerator in your answer.
-
4Now you have to write down the denominator. This is the bottom number. These numbers are never added together. Both of the numbers that are being added together have 5 as a denominator, so you use the same number as the denominator in your answer.
-
5Remember to add the dividing line. If you leave out the dividing line, then it is not a fraction. So your final answer is 3/5.Ad
