Perhaps it was a meal you cooked for yourself in your apartment. Perhaps it was a family dinner at a reunion. Perhaps it was a meal you shared with your friend, colleague, spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend. Whatever it was, you didn't enjoy it, and you felt like it was missing something. This small tutorial should help you to enjoy your next meal more, so you can feel like it was complete and filling.

EditSteps

  1. 1
Eat slowly : Whatever you're eating, be it Ramen, Spaghetti, Chicken Kiev or other dishes, require a slow and calm approach in order to be fully enjoyed. Put down your fork, knife, chopstick or other utensil between bites and allow yourself time to chew and swallow correctly. The old saying goes, "A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips", but you can increase that moment to make the lifetime worthwhile. If your meal is junkfood, you will have a very hard time attempting this step, as all junkfoods like crisps (chips if you're American) are chemically designed to make you reach for more, even when you don't really want more.

  2. 2
Savour each bite : This step comes naturally when the previous step has been followed; Take a moment to make a mental note of the flavour, the smell, the texture of what you're eating, and that memory will stay with you and remind you of how good the meal was. Again, this is hard if you're eating junkfood.
  3. 3
Don't clean your plate, unless you're starving : Of course, you should wash up after a meal (unless you're in a restaurant), but that's not what I mean. Eating too much will give you that sick, bloated feeling you get when you were full, but you ate more. This will often ruin a good meal, and can leave you feeling sick. Let's face it, all of these steps are hard with junkfood.
  4. 4
Be adventurous : If something extra is on your dish, such as a side that you don't normally eat (Horseradish, Mustard, Lemon Sauce etc), or a different dish you haven't tried yet is available, go for it! Often a meal won't feel complete if you haven't tried a little of everything on your plate.
  5. 5
Modify your dish : From the very beginning, recipes were made to be altered and tampered with to make new and exciting ones; picture this, an ancient chinese man eating some bland and dry Chicken with Rice adds a little sauce with some pineapple and tomato, and what does he get? Sweet and Sour Chicken, a delicious staple Chinese dish. Even now, that dish is still being modified. Try to alter your meal with some extra sauces, and getting the ratio of flavour varieties right, and you'll end up with your own personal meal that you fine-tuned to your taste buds. Again, dipping a crisp (chip, in America) in Ketchup probably won't do the trick.
