How to Learn a Language Online for Free
Edited by 8ianca, Wikismash, Maluniu
A lot of people want to be bilingual, but don't have the time to drive to a proper school, or the money to buy lots of textbooks and dictionaries, a tutor or even just a program, all they want is a simple way to learn a full language, fluently. Believe me, I've been through this, and that's why I'm writing about it. I wanted to learn German, but it was too hard, so I decided that Chinese would be good later on in life. Of course, I went into this not knowing how hard it is to do, but I came out knowing a lot. People try to get free this and free that, free downloads and free hard cover books, but it's not going to happen. The "free" downloads come with "free" virus' and the "free" books come with "free" delivery fees. I stopped searching free, and started to think. This is how I learnt a language, online, fluently, for free!!!
EditSteps
-
1Firstly, choose what language you want to learn, and don't change it. This may take some time.Ad
-
2Secondly, decide on your time frame, 2 years, or 2 months. Decide on it accordingly, for instance, you may have a holiday or exam coming up, and you need to know it by then, or your learning it casually, so you don't have a proper deadline.
-
3Now you need to have a goal. Do you want to learn the language basics, fluently or just important things?
-
4Stop and think. Do you want a video series? Some audio recordings? A textbook? A tutor? Think about it. What suits you. Remember, to learn a language properly, you can not stick with one of these. You need to hear it, write/read it, and get used to saying it. I started off with reading, and continued with podcasts spoken in Chinese, then watching videos and using dictionary's.
-
5Get together a list of websites to help you. Make sure you get websites that include the following: dictionary, videos, podcasts, lessons, interactive things and vocabulary and grammar.
-
6Make a language plan. Set aside 15-30 minutes a day to work on your language. Make sure you work really hard, especially if you have a short deadline.
-
7Practice makes permanent. Just work, work, work, practice and practice.Ad
EditTips
- A little bit of time everyday is better than a lot of time on one day.
- Make sure you get GOOD websites that are right, check your sources with other websites.
EditWarnings
- Free trials require a credit card number.... THEY ARE NOT FREE
