How to Make Crunchy Peanut Butter
Edited by Sondra C, AutisticMajor, Maluniu, MA and 2 others
Making your own peanut butter is easier than you think, and very rewarding! This recipe is adapted from the most recent version of The Joy of Cooking. You can use either a blender or a food processor. I use a regular blender to make my peanut butter.
EditIngredients
- 3 Cups Dry Roasted Unsalted Peanuts
- 1/4 teaspoon Salt (optional)
- 4 1/2 Tablespoons Canola Oil or Peanut Oil
EditSteps
-
1Add one cup peanuts to the blender or food processor, followed by 1 1/2 tablespoons of oil.Ad
-
2Repeat for the next two cups of peanuts. Resist the urge to dump all the peanuts in at once and then put in all the oil. It will blend more easily and save you time and effort if you do it this way.
-
3Add the 1/4 teaspoon salt. You may want more, less or no salt depending on your preferences.
-
4Put the cover on the blender.
-
5Set it to "Chop"
-
6Turn the blender off and stir the mixture. It can become very thick and separate itself from the blades, causing the blades to spin without cutting anything. Don't let this happen. The motor can overheat.
-
7Blend until all the whole peanuts have been mixed, but chunks of peanuts still remain in the mixture.
-
8Turn the blender off.
-
9Use a rubber spatula to remove the peanut butter from the blender, and put it in a container.Ad
EditTips
- Keep this peanut butter refrigerated because it has no preservatives.
- You may need more or less oil depending on the dryness of your peanuts or the humidity of your climate.
- You can add honey for sweetness.
- Use canola oil enhanced with Omega-3 fatty acids for a nutritional boost.
EditWarnings
- Do not stir the peanut butter while the blender is running.
- Do not reach into the blender unless the blender is unplugged.
- Peanuts are a common allergen. Don't make peanut butter if you are allergic.
EditThings You'll Need
- Blender or Food Processor
- Measuring Cups
- A Spatula (for getting the peanut butter out of the blender or food processor.)
