Steps
-
1Ask your relatives. Building modular Christmas Villages has been a hobby for over 50 years. Ask your grandparents or relatives if they have any houses. Don't worry if they don't because you can always start somewhere else.
-
2Buy some houses and accessories. If there are no houses or accessories floating around the family, buy some to get started. You can find these all over around Christmas time. A department store such as Macy's, Thrift stores, Flea markets, the Internet, and even Lowe's. You can buy starter kits that come with multiple houses and accessories if you want to.
- Don't be pressured by your options, because remember, building villages takes many years.
- Usually, just start with a house, a church, a store (department store, bakery, restaurant) and a few accessories (people, trees, street lights).
-
3Start the village.
- Find a flat surface such as a coffee table, a shelf, or even under the Christmas Tree.
- Take a white fluffy sheet (you can find these at your local hobby store) and put it on your surface.
- Lay out your houses and accessories on it.
- To create hills, easily put some of the house boxes underneath the sheet.
- Keep in mind that where you are setting it up is accessible to an outlet.
-
4Build and do finishing touches. Once you have laid out all of the houses
- Plug them in for a test run.
- Make any necessary bulb changes, and use extension cords if you have to.
-
5Choose accessories. The only limit to where you place your accessories is your imagination.
- Sprinkle some sparkly fake snow on it. This looks good as the light reflects off of it.
- A very good addition is a good old Lionel Train set. Lionel's FasTrack works well with villages.
-
6Name your village after a family member, a friend, or just make one up.
- Get creative and make a sign.
-
7Enjoy your Christmas village. It will do you good and will impress your friends.
- Keep on building it over the years!
