  1. 1
Start by buying your livebearers (providing you have a tank) which are easily found at most fish and pet stores. You must have the number of females outnumbering the number of males or else the males will chase the female and she will get stressed and may die. Although it can be a shame with Guppies you really don't want you females dying trust me. When you buy your livebearers they could already be pregnant.

  2. 2
Next wait for your fish to be pregnant which will happen fairly soon after step 1. Your female WILL do these two things if she's pregnant 1. Develop a dark patch or gravid spot behind the tummy. 2.Become incredibly fat.
  3. 3
Depending on your species of fish, you will need to do different things. Now there is four things you can do with your females.
    • Just leave them/her in the community tank and put bushy like plants like hornwort in to provide refuge for the fry and microorganisms to eat.
    • Get a smaller tank and put her in it until she has given birth to the fry then put her in the community tank. This is not recommended, as moving the mother could stress her, and she may abort and even die.
    • Put the females in a breeding trap so the fry are safe from being eaten by their own mother! Although this is a great way for your fry to be safe it's not such a good idea because the female will probably get stressed in the trap which you can understand because you wouldn't want to be trapped from your friends and lovers by a clear wall of plastic.
    • Let the female have the fry in the community tank the catch them and put them in the breeding trap because the fry don't seem to mind (probably because it's a safe haven.
