EditSteps
-
1First, find a suitable tank for your fry to live in. If you don’t have one currently, you may have a better fish bowl that would work for a short time while you try and find a tank for your fry to permanently live in.
-
2When the fry are born, separate them immediately to a different tank. You can either catch the babies one at a time, carefully with a net, or take the adult fish and any frogs living in the tank out.
-
3Be sure and feed your fry 4-6 times a day, making sure you feed as much as they can eat in about 30 seconds. If you feed them too much, the tank will become dirty quicker.
-
4Try and change some of the water in the fry tank once a day or every other day. Be sure not to take any of the fry out with the water on accident. Also be sure not to stress them too much when you do this by taking out a little water at time.
EditTips
- Try adding a live plant to the fry tank
- Add lots of hiding places for the fry, they love this!
- Make sure you crinkle or rub the feeding flakes or pellets to make a feeding powder.
- Be sure that the fry are eating well. Sometimes, even if you crush the flakes really small, they are still too big for your fry. In this situation, try food especially made for platy fry.
EditWarnings
- If you put too much food in, the tank will get cloudy quicker and that could lead to illness of the fry.
EditThings You'll Need

- Filter (be sure the fry can’t be sucked up)
