wikiHow is a great site to write how-to articles on, as well as being a wiki, which means anyone may edit it. However, it can attract vandals, trolls, and other unwelcome users. If you're getting a bit annoyed with them, you're reading the right article!

EditSteps

  1. 1
Always assume good faith. Being a kind user on wikiHow is crucial.
    • Never lose your temper. No matter how annoying a user may be, it's always good to keep your cool and help out with anything they may need. Who knows, maybe in a few months they could be your best friend on wikiHow!

  2. 2
Offer assistance and help in a kind manner.
    • If you see someone being mean to another user, kindly ask if there's anything you can do to help. As well as that, remind them to be kind, and if the user still keeps harassing them, tell them to report it to the Admin Notice Board.
  3. 3
If it's a user harassing a friend, step in slightly by giving them a warning template, and tell them specifically what the user did wrong and could fix.
  4. 4
Never be rude in any response you send. Be polite and if it gets bad, ignore the user. Chances are, the user is purposefully annoying you to get you to cave and/or lash out.
  5. 5
Ignore the user. Most people who choose to pick fights with other users will get bored and leave if you ignore them enough.
    • Trolls make you mad for a reason. When you finally stick up for yourself, you may become rude, then they'll take that and make you even madder. They just want to be noticed, and any recognition, good or bad, is okay with them.

EditTips

  • If you have to, report it on the Administrator Notice Board or go to the IRC channel to ask for advice from an admin.
  • Another alternative is to find the active admin at the time and ask for advice. You can look in the moving RC to the right of any page to find one.
  • If something irritates you, you'll get mad. Turn that anger into the will to help. If you see someone insulting someone and annoying them, don't step in with a warning, take a deep breath and offer to coach that user.
  • Work through anything that's bad. Take the time to help the user, sooner or later, he/she will come around and accept the help, and be thankful.

EditWarnings

  • Never lose your temper. It can make you look bad and the vandal will be more than happy to vandalize more pages, just to know you're mad.
