    Check the coin return slots of payphones, vending machines, self-checkout machines, and the return slot of CoinStar. The latter is usually a hotbed for loose change, as many people are distracted cashing in on coins.

    Check the small gap between the vending machine and the floor. It helps to carry a small ruler or other straight-edge object, to sweep out any change or other objects.

    Check the floor especially well when visiting bank branches, as money is constantly changing hands.
