Upload Wizard not working[edit]
When I click on Upload file (to the left), all I get on my computer is the centre throbber icon turning round and round. Nothing else shows up. Do you know what is happening? It was the same yesterday. I waited overnight thinking that maybe there's a problem with my connection. Today it became obvious to me, that my computer has nothing to do with it. Please look into it. Thanks, Poeticbent talk 13:33, 24 May 2014 (UTC)
- Please tell me, which browser are you using? Does it work after bypassing your browser's cache? Also consider using one of the options at Commons:Upload instead as UploadWizard is in the state of perpetual brokenness. -- Rillke(q?) 14:41, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

- Thanks User:Rillke for your quick reply. Bypassing browser's cache doesn't improve anything. I use Internet Explorer. As far a I'm concerned, Upload Wizard is dead. However, just like you thought: Commons:Upload works fine. I'm going to use it instead from now on. Thanks, Poeticbent talk 21:09, 24 May 2014 (UTC)
- I've experienced the same problem several times the last few days under Safari.--Turris Davidica (talk) 15:17, 3 June 2014 (UTC)

Graph derived from data that should be cited[edit]
I have created a graph based on this data, which has citation information at the time; the parent page (here) says that it should be cited as "Reimer et al. (2013)". The full article is here.
I'd like to upload the graph with the Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 3.0 license, and I wanted to check that that's OK in this case. If I add to the description the full citation to Reimer et al.'s article in Radiocarbon, and clarify in the description the relationship between their data and this graph -- that is, that the graph is my work but the underlying data is not -- is that acceptable? I would include in the description the statement that anyone using this graph should cite Reimer et al. when doing so, as the underlying source. Mike Christie (talk) 02:34, 25 June 2014 (UTC)
- I expect that an attribution for the data would be just fine in either the Description or the Source field (the latter following “Own work, based on …“ or similar); you could also put it in EXIF metadata, if convenient. Referring to the authors in the Source field has the advantage of connecting them to the BY-SA provisions of the licence a bit more explicitly. Details of the construction should probably be in the Description field regardless.—Odysseus1479 (talk) 03:48, 25 June 2014 (UTC)
- OK, thanks; I've uploaded the picture on that basis, though I didn't see a source field in the wizard. I put the information in the description field. I also just noticed that that issue of Radiocarbon says "This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 License", on this page. I assume that doesn't change anything; attribution is still required, right? Though I suppose it means that if they had produced a graph I wished to use, I could have uploaded it directly instead of reproducing it, so long as the attribution was preserved. Mike Christie (talk) 10:47, 25 June 2014 (UTC)
Date of creation[edit]
Why hide the message "Date this work was created or first published (YYYY-MM-DD format)" behind a small help-button, in the upload form? Show it directly, to prevent exchanging date of creation of the Commons file (upload date) and date of creation of the original file. --Wickey-nl (talk) 11:46, 25 June 2014 (UTC)
- Probably because you're using the dumbed-down Commons:UploadWizard, which was pushed on us by people in the Wikimedia Foundation who don't use Commons on a daily basis or have any frequent interact with new or experienced Commons users. Even administrators on Commons aren't trusted to change the text of the UploadWizard, and the developers seem to have moved on to new and more exciting projects, because as far as I can tell they're not even fixing showstoppers (people have been reporting freezing issues like #Upload Wizard not working since it was introduced), let alone adjusting the instructions. New development is always more exciting than maintenance.
- Not that I'm bitter or anything. ;-) I use Special:Upload, which Commons administrators do have control over, and which consequently doesn't hide the information in question (it looks like this). —LX (talk, contribs) 07:47, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
-
- @LX: I *think* we could edit this text (it's MediaWiki:Mwe-upwiz-date-created) but we would have to care for the translations and it would look slightly cluttered if repeated for all uploads. I've done it but there might be some caching and some people might be opposed to it. -- Rillke(q?) 15:01, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
Hochladen[edit]
Calib.org output graph[edit]
This web application generates graphs; they get used in academic papers with attribution to CALIB. Can I upload an example output picture? I can't find anything on the site about copyright of the output of the program, only about the manual. If I can't upload it here, would it be OK as fair use on en in order to demonstrate what programs of this type can do, from sample data? Mike Christie (talk) 15:47, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
Upload Wizard errors[edit]
UW doesn't seem to accept {{CopyrightByWikimedia}} as a license, making it hard to upload any modifications of WM logos.
Also, on uploading a svg that's been converted to a png, with default extension .svg.png, I get an unspecified error. --SJ+ 16:21, 27 June 2014 (UTC)
- Welcome to Commons. Added the relevant bugs. Use {{Copyright by Wikimedia}} instead. -- Rillke(q?) 18:16, 27 June 2014 (UTC)
- I think bugzilla:67206 is a duplicate of bugzilla:40920. —LX (talk, contribs) 18:19, 27 June 2014 (UTC)
Sj -- double filename extensions such as ".svg.png" are generally a poor practice, and it's probably a good thing that Upload Wizard disallows them... AnonMoos (talk) 01:36, 28 June 2014 (UTC)

Pictures of Paintings[edit]
I am in the process of creating a new article about a relevant Colombian Painter called Javier Restrepo Cuartas (1946-2008). I do have images of his paintings and permission from the family to use them for this purpose. Can I upload them to wikimedia commons? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Luis Fernando Escobar Arango (talk • contribs) 15:58, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, please forward the permission to com:OTRS and wait for their response. --McZusatz (talk) 16:54, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- No, you cannot upload the images to Commons if the permission only covers your use in an article on the subject. It's a founding principle of Commons that we should only host content that can be used by anyone for any purpose. Therefore, you will need the heirs' permission to publish the images under a license that allows anyone to use, modify and distribute them for any purpose, including commercial purposes. Full instructions for how to obtain a suitable permission are at Commons:OTRS. —LX (talk, contribs) 18:54, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
Upload Wizard & Flickr[edit]
I tried to use the Upload Wizard to put up the set of shots from the Heart Truth 2013 show to Commons, as that tool will easily handle albums. The set in question can be found here. Problem I bumped into is that the Upload Tool does not recognize the United States Government Work license present on the images and returns an error saying "Unfortunately, no images from this Flickr account can be uploaded on this site." Can someone add this license to the wizard? Tabercil (talk) 18:34, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
- AFAIR this account is blacklisted, there are several images taged with news services as origin (in exif data) yet classified as USGov work. --Denniss (talk) 18:56, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
- Huh. Hadn't noticed that... I'll get in touch with them to try and clear that issue up. It's interesting that the EXIF data reads "Getty Images for Heart Truth", which makes me think that the "for Heart Truth" qualifier is significant. Maybe Getty was hired to take the shots? If so, then the question would be who owns the shots? If it's The Heart Truth, then the PD-US license would be accurate. Tabercil (talk) 15:03, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- If that account is as problematic as it's listing at Commons:Questionable Flickr images prompted by this discussion and these deletion discussions, we probably shouldn't have 225 images from that account hosted here, including at least 16 photos where Getty Images employees are claimed to be employees of the US Federal Government... —LX (talk, contribs) 00:06, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
Map from 1934[edit]
Here is an anthropological map from 1934. The author is the German physical anthropologist w:Egon Freiherr von Eickstedt. Can I upload it without license problems? --Su4kin (talk) 12:55, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
- No. As shown by Commons:Copyright rules by territory#Germany, copyright expires 70 years after the author's death in Germany, and 1965 is less than 70 years ago. —LX (talk, contribs) 16:29, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
Image deleted[edit]
Hello,
I uploaded the logo of the ISC for whom I am actually working and it was deleted as you told that you were not sure that it was free to use. If I am working for the ISC and I want its logo to appear on its wikipedia page, how can I do?
Thanks,
Théo —Preceding unsigned comment added by Théo Fleismaher (talk • contribs) 05:43, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
- If the logo has been published under a free licence or released into the public domain, a citation in the Source field, or a link to the owner’s site saying so, should do. Otherwise you (or someone else with authority to act on the organization’s behalf) should contact OTRS, who will issue a “ticket“ once they’re satisfied of the suitability of the licence. That will serve to advise users that the source of the permission has been verified.
- If your sole purpose is to illustrate an article on the English Wikipedia (which is a separate website, with its own policies), you could upload the image there as non-free media with a fair use rationale. This would not require the release of any copyrights.—Odysseus1479 (talk) 06:18, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Théo! You might want to have a look at Commons:Guidance for paid editors. It includes information on providing evidence of your affiliations and on sharing logotypes. —LX (talk, contribs) 11:15, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
No subject[edit]
Hi,
I uploaded a photo of Neil Thomas Proto. It was deleted even after I sent [email protected] the correct release information (as stipulated on their Wikipedia page). I provided you all with legal permission from the owner of the photo (I even gave you his contact information so that you could contact him directly), yet you've deleted the photo. What am I doing wrong? How can I get the photo approved so that I can include a photo on Proto's Wikipedia page?
Thanks,
--Balbenus (talk) 18:46, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
- Did you include {{OTRS pending}} or any indication that you'd sent something in on the file description page? If not, the users involved with the deletion probably didn't know about that. If you've sent in an appropriate permission, then you don't need to do anything else at this point. The image will be undeleted once the volunteers processing permission e-mails get around to it (which can take some time). If they need anything else from you, they will get back to you via e-mail. —LX (talk, contribs) 21:51, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
Cannot Publish Files[edit]
Although my files seem to be uploaded, once I move to to the "publish" section, I get an error message and can't get any further,. My files are my own work.

Ayuda para subir imagen[edit]
Buenas tardes.
- Google translated - Hola Usuario:Jhoez.
