How to Clean an Eraser
Edited by WikiBunny, Lillian May, Flickety, BR and 4 others
Dirty erasers leave streaks and marks across your work and anything else that you try to use the eraser on. It's important to clean your eraser regularly to remove build-up of pencil marks and to ensure that the streaks are removed, not added.
EditSteps
-
1Take out a blank sheet of paper. The back of used printer painter is ideal. Avoid rubbing on the printed side of any paper.Ad
-
2Rub the eraser on the side where the marks are evident. Keep rubbing until you notice that the marks are coming off.
-
3Persist until the eraser is clean all over.
-
4Return to its cover or case to remain clean.
-
5Repeat regularly as build-up occurs.Ad
EditTips
- You can also buy borax from a store and mix it with water until it dissolves. Then, put the eraser into the mixture and let it sit there for 5 to 15 minutes. Rinse it off with cold water when you take it out.
- Try to spread the rubbing pressure evenly across the surface. Otherwise the eraser may change shape
- Sometimes you can even wash with soap and water.
- Artists use a razor blade to cut the ends of the eraser to make them smooth again. Cutting has the side effect of cleaning the edges.
