3Be prepared for innumerable meetings from grade school. It isn't fun being told your child has a learning disability, and don't be surprised when the tears just come. However, don't feel helpless. You can be pivotal in ensuring your child succeeds.
-
4Stay involved. Go to every meeting and utilize every source there is to use. Hire private tutors, work with your child yourself, but most importantly, always would tell your child that he or she can be whatever they want to be.

5Realize that it is as emotionally draining as it is physical. But you have to keep this child's future in mind, you have to know at this age you must certainly be the biggest advocate for this person.

6Understand that you will be told the same thing at new schools, again and again. There will be meeting after meeting, the same things said. You need to learn to deflect this and to be on the front foot with your answers and your explanations, to head them off and to make it clear to them that you do understand and you are already actively doing your best and that you will continue to do so by remaining involved.
- Continue to have your child tutored.
- Realize the tests will show many below average gradings. Expect that so you're ready for it rather than terrified by it.
- Keep being your child's biggest advocate.
-
7Realize that you're not alone and that a lot of parents have been through this. And that their children have turned into successful, fully functioning adults because the parents continued to care actively and consistently.
-
8Do not let your child's disability hold them back. As a parent, teach them to reach as high as they can, no matter the obstacles, and you reach with them. Don't give up.Ad
