How to Work Well in wikiHow
Edited by Abhishek, Vibha Gramopadhye, Adelaide, Shina and 1 other
wikiHow is the world's most popular How-to website. It's a community approach, which means that anyone can edit wikiHow. There are simple ways to work well on the site.
EditSteps
-
1Practice your writing.
- You can jot down tutorials on a practice pad and paper and practice your writing skills.
- Don't use words that are too complicated for a layman to understand, but, at the same time, don't be too basic.
- Write about what you know. You will need to practice your writing style and hone your skills constantly to become a better and better author at wikiHow.

2Be careful, methodical and patient while patrolling recent changes.
- Skip edits if you're not sure whether to approve them or not. Press the "Skip" button to do so.
- Revert vandalism.
- Read through the changes carefully and check whether they comply with all of wikiHow's policies.
- Give the editor a thumbs up if you liked his or her edit and leave him or her a talk page message if you want to communicate.
- Make minor edits to correct spelling and grammatical errors.
-
3Be friendly. No one likes a grouch.
- Respect others on wikiHow and don't be too full of yourself.
- Communicate with others through their talk pages and make friends.
- Treat newcomers and experienced editors alike.
- Don't give anyone the cold shoulder.
- Greet new users. If you particularly enjoy this task, consider applying for Welcome Wagon!
- A great way to interact with others is through the wikiHow forums.
-
4Visit the community dashboard.
- Focus on quality, rather than trying to get on the Leaderboards. wikiHow is not a contest.
- From copyediting to patrolling tips to tweeting an article forward, try everything! You never know what you may be good at.
-
5Visit wikiHow as much as you can. Set a daily target and try to achieve it.
-
6Read articles. Doing this improves your knowledge, and your knowledge will come in handy when you are writing an article.
- See if there's something in an article that you can improve (such as a mistake), or add a tip to it if you can think of one. Just press the "Edit Article" button and give it a go!
-
7Join groups, projects and teams. On wikiHow, you will find groups of like-minded people with a common objective. Join them and contribute to fulfilling the group's objective and mission.
-
8Follow rules.
- Don't break any wikiHow policy.
- Be sure to toe the line.
- Always be aware that you are not the only user of wikiHow. Any rule you break will be corrected soon by some other user.
- Don't do anything which might cause you to get reprimanded by other users, or even blocked.
