Nice game—could be a 5-star with a couple improvements
The game plays well, but I can’t figure out why the developer didn’t orient the table to match the screen, which would allow the game window to be much larger. I don’t think it would have adversely affected game play. Also, the rules should be adjustable in the preferences. For example, I prefer to pay call pocket for all shots and to not allow slop shots (spot them or at least end the turn. Lastly, it’s a bit too hard to get a good break. I have yet to not leave a cluster of balls after the break. Oh, and it might be nice to be able to adjust the cue-ball contact to apply some english.
Despite the above comments and suggestions, the game really does play well and is fun to play.
Fun 8-ball game for mindless fun
It's a fun game that I play sometimes for mindless fun. Some of the other reviews take the game way too seriously. You should be able to figure out the rules of play as you actually play it or you can look them up. I'm fine with the novice level of the computer player and how it seems to purposefully flub on certain shots that seem really easy to make. It's quirky at times in how the computer player gets to place the cue ball where it likes for seemingly no reason, but it's not a big deal. It's just light, mindless fun between work tasks.
Beautiful but doesn't work
So far as I can see the scoring is broken. It's possible I don't understand the rules and since there are no help or instructions there's no way to find out what they are. No matter what I do it ends saying "Player 2 wins" (I'm player1). Even if I sink every striped ball in sequence and then the 8 ball it says players 2 wins. And what are the numbers that sometimes appear in the upper left and right corners? They seem to be the score but they never change and sometimes when you play they aren't there at all.
But the graphics are magnificent. I would play it a lot if it worked.
