ALICE and MyHSPH Maintenance Window Scheduled for December 28

UPDATE, December 29: All updates were successful and systems are fully operational.

A maintenance window/outage has been scheduled for the ALICE and MyHSPH Student Information Systems (SIS) between 9:00am and 5:00pm on Sunday, December 28, 2014.

This maintenance window will be used to install vendor-supplied software updates to our SIS.  Our continued updates allow us to keep features, functionality and security up to date.

The following systems will be affected:

  • MyHSPH portal features
  • ALICE Self Service for Students and Faculty
  • Internet Native Banner (Administrative users)

You will still be able to access unaffected services such as email, course iSites, the HSPH Events calendar, NetStorage and more by visiting the current portal address:

https://my.sph.harvard.edu

If we are able to complete the work sooner than anticipated, we will notify all users when the systems are again available.

We appreciate your patience during this very important upgrade process.

Scheduled Maintenance on Sunday March 16

UPDATE: All updates were successful and systems are fully operational.

Sunday night, March 16th, we will be performing our normal system maintenance to all servers.

The maintenance window will last from 5PM to 1AM.

Note – Our normal Thursday window is being moved to Sunday to accommodate the academic calendar.

There will be a school-wide Network outage between 5:00PM to 7:30PM:

  • ALL ACCESS to Servers will be interrupted
  • ALL ACCESS to the Internet will be interrupted

The following services will have one or two small outages between 7:30PM to 1:00AM:
(You can continue to work, but may have brief pauses while services restart)

  • File and Print services
  • ICF File services
  • ICF Print services
  • NetStorage
  • Kanaka
  • Powerfaids and NetPartner
  • Web Server (main www.hsph.harvard.edu site)
  • Accellion File Transfer service
  • Wasabi

The following services will be unavailable from 7:30PM to Tues (3/18/2014) at 3:00PM:
NOTE – Extended outage due to system upgrade

  • ALICE
  • MyHSPH Portal

The following services will be unaffected after 7:30PM:

  • HPCC system
  • HUIT Icemail (Outlook) system
  • ALICE Development/Testing systems
  • HSPH Wireless Access

  • 5/18/2014 (Moved to Sunday)
  • 6/12/2014

Congratulations to Laurie Sutherland

The Department of Information Technology is pleased to announce that Laurie Sutherland has been promoted to Senior SIS Programmer and Application Developer.

Laurie has met each new challenge in the SIS project head-on and delivers superior results, such as the online registration checklist, which was built from the ground-up and implemented ahead of schedule.

We thank Laurie for her continued contributions and commitment to improving the Student Information System at HSPH.

Scheduled downtime of ALICE and MyHSPH on Saturday, June 8

UPDATE: All upgrades were successful.

The HSPH Department of Information Technology is writing to inform our community of a system outage scheduled for the ALICE and MyHSPH Student Information Systems (SIS) which will occur between 3:00PM and 10:00PM on Saturday, June 8th. 

This maintenance window will be used to perform our next set of upgrades to various components of our SIS.  Our continued upgrades allow us to keep features, functionality and security up to date.  The following systems will be affected:

  • MyHSPH portal
  • ALICE Self Service for Students and Faculty
  • Internet Native Banner (Administrative users)

ALICE/MyHSPH Maintenance This Wednesday, May 8th

UPDATE: All upgrades were successful.

The Department of Information Technology will be performing important infrastructure maintenance work that will take place Wednesday, May 8th, on the ALICE and MyHSPH Student Information Systems (SIS). This work is part of our migration project to newly purchased back-end storage systems.

The work is scheduled for Wednesday, May 8th, from 9:30pm – 11:30pm. The following systems will be affected:

• MyHSPH Portal
• ALICE Self Service for Students and Faculty
• Internet-native Banner (Administrative users)

Please Note:
In an effort to minimize impact to your user community, we will maintain a landing page at the school’s portal address of https://my.sph.harvard.edu which will respond and will provide direct links to services such as Email, Netstorage for access to network files, and iSites for coursework, among others.

Server Maintenance This Evening at 8:30 pm

The Department of Information Technology is writing to inform our community of emergency maintenance work that will take place tonight, Wednesday, May 1st, on the ALICE and MyHSPH Student Information Systems (SIS).

The work is scheduled for one hour this evening between 8:30pm and 9:30pm.  The following systems will be affected:

  • MyHSPH portal
  • ALICE Self Service for Students and Faculty
  • Internet Native Banner (Administrative users)

Additionally, at 8:30 pm and for approximately 5-10 minutes, we will be conducting a stress test on our web server to test enhancements recently made to the infrastructure.  You may experience slowness on http://www.hsph.harvard.edu during the test.

Anne-Marie’s dedication to the SIS project and her institutional knowledge has been invaluable in transitioning the SIS team to IT and in upgrading our system in March during spring break.

Major SIS Upgrade Planned for March 16 – 20, 2013

The Department of Information Technology is writing to give you advance notice of a system outage scheduled for the ALICE and MyHSPH Student Information Systems (SIS) which will occur between 9:00 AM Saturday, March 16th through 8:00 AM Wednesday, March 20th.  This maintenance window is needed in order to perform a series of much needed upgrades to various components of our SIS.  We have scheduled the work to take place during Spring Break, with the hopes of minimizing impact to our community.

The following systems will be affected:

  • MyHSPH portal
  • ALICE Self Service for Students and Faculty
  • Internet Native Banner (Administrative users)

Access to course iSites and GMAIL will be available through a web interface that will be linked to the current portal address of https://my.sph.harvard.edu

This four-day window is designed to provide sufficient time to perform all needed upgrades.  During the upgrade process we will also implement changes to our portal configuration that will allow full functionality within the portal, even for other Harvard networks that are not part of the HSPH network.  If we are able to complete the work sooner than anticipated, we will notify all users when the systems are again available.
