This page hosts requests for a username change. Please read the instructions before posting a request. In the future (after SUL finalisation), global username changes may be requested here to be done by stewards.

This is also the page where stewards can be requested to deal with problems relating to the unified login feature. These include:

  • Usurpation of accounts
  • Deletion of global accounts

Instructions[edit]

Before posting here[edit]

Please list specific projects that you need rename in under your request. Global renames are in a trial phase, and your request may be delayed while the stewards determine the process.

To add an entry, please copy and paste the text below into the appropriate section.

Making a request for your own account[edit]

For changing your username on one wiki:

Please include the following information in your request:

  • the old username,
  • the new username,
  • the wiki project on which you ask for the renaming,
  • a link to the local (old) user page, where you put a formal request with your local account

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. Please don't skip the last point, even if there's no community on the project. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available. You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists.

For changing your username on several wikis: If you want to have your username changed on several wikis at the same time, please put a list of these wikis on one of your user pages and make sure that there is a link back to this page from all of the other user pages. Alternatively you can post a short request separately with all the user accounts to be renamed. Please give here only the link to the user page with your list and replace the "@ project" in the headline by "on several projects" or the like.

Making a request for an account that is not yours[edit]

If you want to have an account renamed because its name is harrassing or insulting, or if it impersonates you or someone else, please include the following information in your request:

  • the account's name, including a translation into English, (if it's harrassing or insulting),
  • the wiki project on which you ask for the renaming,
  • the impersonated account (if the account is impersonating), this can be cross wiki.

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

SUL account deletions[edit]

Please specify the account to be deleted, e.g. by linking to the Special:CentralAuth page for it, and the reason for it.

Requests[edit]

Please add new requests at the end of the page. Sections should be titled your username@project name or your username@multiple projects please.

I cannot follow which wiki you are unable to get a rename on. Please list the specific projects without local bureaucrats that you need a rename on (i.e. where you actually have edits), and specify which wikis with local bureaucrats you are unable to get a rename on with links to your requests. It was the first time for me to login Wikipedia, but I did not notice to registered with a wrong name. Please change my user name.

In past i requested to nepali wiki admin to change my username Biplabrjb to बिप्लब आनन्द,they changed it successfully but after the change i can't edit globally on Wikipedia through the user name :बिप्लब आनन्द,so now i want to change my user name बिप्लब आनन्द so i can edit globally through this particular username (बिप्लब आनन्द).Thanks
You'll need to first log in with बिप्लब आनन्द on ne.wikipedia to create a standard unified login (SUL) - after logging in, go to ne:Special:MergeAccount to ensure the creation of your SUL. After that, you will need to go to the appropriate pages on the left side of this page to request renames from Biplabrjb to बिप्लब आनन्द on en.wikipedia [2], commons.wikimedia [3], meta.wikimedia here and wikidata.org [4] to complete your SUL. Once you are done that, go back to Special:MergeAccount on newikipedia to add those accounts to your SUL. Please let me know if I can help more :) Ajraddatz (talk) 05:39, 20 April 2014 (UTC)

Unfortunately I can't change it. You'll need to go to each of the pages I linked to above to change your remaining accounts with edits, then once they have all been locally renamed, you will need to go to Special:MergeAccount on ne.wikipedia to add them to your SUL. Have you tried to contact the brwiki bureaucrat? Alternatively, by the way, you can take "Herzeleid" as a global account (since it doesn't exist yet) once you have more edits than the frwiki user (ca. 30), who is inactive since 2008. --MF-W 19:07, 22 June 2014 (UTC)

I created another account named "Cossack3rd" on the jawiki. This is the name I wanted to change to. Since no one uses this name, the account is unified automatically. I provide the link between the old and the new accounts on the user pages of both "Cossack" (the old account) and "Cossack3rd" (the new one). Sorry for bothering you because I am not familiar with the wiki rules.

No, stewards can't technically rename globally when there are local conflicting accounts. You will need the local 'crats usurp first, and then the global renaming can take place. Matanya (talk) 13:09, 16 July 2014 (UTC)
