On the Internet, a CAPTCHA is often used to check that a person is filling in a website form, and not a "robot". It does this by showing you a word or series of letters which you have to type out. This works because computers find it much more difficult to see the words and letters than humans. They can be tricky even for humans though, so here is how to go about completing them.

  1. 1
Take a step back, and look at each of the letters carefully in turn. Type one at a time into the box below the picture. If you come across a letter that's difficult to decipher, you can either guess at what it might be, or try a new CAPTCHA image by clicking on the refresh icon, if there is one.

  2. 2
Consider doing the audio CAPTCHA instead. If there is a sound icon near to the image, then it is possible to do a sound-based CAPTCHA instead, in which you hear letters read to you, and you have to fill them in the box. This is intended for visually impaired people, but it can often be easier to understand than the visual CAPTCHA. Keep in mind that with certain audio CAPTCHAs, background sounds are added to slightly distort the reading for added security, so be certain to listen extra carefully in those instances.
  3. 3
Complete the remainder of the form once you are relatively certain that you have completed the CAPTCHA correctly. If it says you have done it wrong, just try again with the new CAPTCHA until you get it right.

  • Relax and take your time. Don't fill it in too quickly, or you might make a mistake.
