When creating redirects to an article, it sometimes easy to overlook an article that is in the middle of things, and mistake that article for the one you should have used at the bottom edge of the "trail". For those special times, another "app" is there to help red-flag this issue. The Double Redirects page/app is this page/app that will help. This article will explain to you, how to use this page/app.

EditSteps

  1. 1
Understand the wikiHow Merge Policy. Knowing this will help make sure the two are so similar that the redirect can be fixed/adjusted properly.

  2. 2
    Open your web browser.
  3. Image 168.jpg
    3
Visit the wikiHow Double Redirects page. It doesn't matter what level of knowledge you are here. Whether you're an NABer or an Admin, or just some "once-a-month no special privileges user", it really doesn't matter. Just know the Merge Policy, to make sure these are being created correctly.
    • It is better, however, if you are an NABer or Admin when completing this task, because you've passed the assessment that requires you to know this policy super-well.
  4. 4
Look at the list. You'll see three different titles on each listing item. The first title is the article that needs to be adjusted.
  5. 5
Look at the other two titles, in addition to the items that need to be adjusted.
  6. 6
Realize that the last item in the line will be the final destination of the redirect that was originally created to a non-final level page.
  7. 7
Copy the exact title that the old redirect must now be redirected to. As long as you keep the case-sensitive in the same respect, you can even keep this lodged in your head or even down on paper. Just know what to use in the same case-sensitive matter, as how it appears on screen.
  8. 8
Locate the "(edit)" link that appears to the right of the original title that will need to be adjusted.
  9. 9
Click the Edit link. This will send up an advanced editor that will help you adjust this link, thereby completing the task. But just opening the editor, won't finish the task.
  10. 10
Locate and remove the old article title from in between the square-brackets. Try not to use the "Cut" form of Copy and Paste, as this will defeat the Copy you performed a bit earlier. Backspace and Delete are okay, however.
  11. New redirecte.jpg
    11
Paste the new case-sensitive article title into this square bracket area.
  12. 12
Type an edit summary such as "double redirect" or "fixing double redirect" or something along that line into the Edit summary line.
  13. 13
Click the "Publish" button, just like you would for any other edit.
  14. Back to page.jpg
    14
Go back to the double redirects page to see if that title has been fixed. Either use the back button and refresh the page, or start a new "trail" to get to this page in some form.
  15. 15
Repeat the process, for any others that may exist, for as many as are eligible to be properly fixed as redirects.

EditTips

  • Some of the time, when you "move" (or permanently change the article title's name) this will generally set anything that has other redirects on it, to be pushed to here. Be forewarned of this fact.
  • This page doesn't tend to see too much action, however, if there are times when it has many, it may be a good time to try out the tool. The edits are quick, painless and easy to do, and don't take much time to process one (if you know the proper steps).
