EditSteps
-
1Check where the tail starts. If your snake is non-venomous, the scales on its belly should have one row and the scales on its tail should have two rows. The middle is where the anal part is and where the tail starts.
-
2Compare. If possible get another snake which is the same species and the same size as the one you have, By this way, you can see which one has the longest tail. Try this step only if you are friendly with snakes and you know how to handle them without annoying them.
-
3Check the length of its tail. Female snakes have shorter tails than male snakes. However, it is a bit harder to tell with a short tailed python.
EditTips
- You don't have to get another snake to tell the difference, but it's best to.
- Re-check from time to time to be sure.
EditWarnings
- Do not turn the snake upside-down by force.
- Do not annoy the snake during this process because they will bite you!
