How to Rotate a Mattress
Most mattresses need to be rotated to achieve its maximum usable life. This quick method will keep you from having to buy another mattress for a while, if done regularly.
EditSteps
-
1Rotate your mattress at regular intervals. When you adjust your clocks for standard and daylight saving time, change your smoke detector batteries and rotate your mattress. In Spring - spin; in Fall - flip.Ad
-
2Plan for this when the bed is stripped of linens closest to the date of clock adjustment.
-
3Spin the mattress end for end so that what was at the headboard is now at the foot board in Spring.
-
4Flip the mattress the short way so that the top is now the bottom in Fall.Ad
EditTips
- Flip side to side also once a month.
- Rotate your mattress once a month if you prefer, first front to head.
EditWarnings
- Some mattresses have a "pillow top" only on one side - so flipping won't be an option, but spinning will work.
- Not all mattresses require spinning or flipping. Those that don't usually indicate so.
- When rotating the mattress beware nearby night tables, lamps, or heaters.
- The low position required to rotate a mattress can lead to lower back injury. Do not do jerky movements, and proceed with caution. If done properly, there shouldn't be any problem.
