How to Recover when You Start a Test and Lose Confidence
Recover from confidence loss mid test or exam.
EditSteps
-
1Before you leave to school acknowledge that it may happen. Before you walk into class that day acknowledge that you may lose confidence, you may hear a little voice telling you that you can't do it mid test. Be prepared for this.Ad

2When you panic mid test, pause, clear your mind and breathe. Yes you are on a time budget, yes you are stuck on a question and yes your mind just went blank. Take twenty seconds, not one second more or less to just clear your mind and breathe. During those twenty seconds you may feel anxious, your chest may tighten, you'll want to stop breathing and keep writing but just remember that you can afford these twenty seconds to just breathe, these twenty seconds belong to you.
-
3Acknowledge again. You knew this was going to happen, there is no need to panic because you knew that this would happen. Accept that it is happening, if you get a little voice telling you that you screwed up just remember that this is normal for everyone.
-
4If possible skip to the next question that you know. Do all the questions you know well to build up your confidence.
-
5Work your way up. Start with what you know then try the harder ones. Before you know it you'll start remembering pieces of information that you couldn't recall before.
-
6Acceptance. You did the best you could do, pass or fail you fought and tried. Now that you've had a feel for the questions your teacher likes to throw at you it'll be easy to prepare for the next test and if you did poorly today you'll do great tomorrow.Ad
EditWarnings
- Depending on the type of test your writing you may need to tweak some of these steps. Find what works for you and adapt it to whatever test you'll be writing.
- A driving test with an actual car can be dangerous, so do your breathing before you get in the car.
