Whether you have no time or money to run to the store or you just want to give your table a unique, cozy, and personalized flair, you can make placemats from your fabric stash or scrap bag if you're willing to put your sewing machine to work.

1Cut two rectangles the size of the desired mat plus half an inch (1.25 cm) in all directions (to allow for seams).Ad

2Sew the two rectangles together with printed or "right" sides facing together, leaving a 3-4 inch gap for turning.

3Miter the corners.

4Turn it "right" side out.

5Slip stitch the opening closed.

6Top stitch around the perimeter.
