Objectives:
In response to the recent surge of type 2 diabetes in China, we proposed to test the feasibility of a 9-month lifestyle intervention, Pathway to Health (PATH; 健康新路), to reduce risks for diabetes in Chinese women. Based on the successful U.S. Diabetes Prevention Program, the China Da Qing Diabetes Prevention Study, and the accumulative work of the research team, PATH is built upon the infrastructure of recently restructured Chinese healthcare system and has great potential for generalization and sustainability in China, if proven successful. The proposed study will be conducted in Yuci, Shanxi Province, China.
BRIDGES (Bringing Research in Diabetes to Global Environments and Systems) is a programme initiated by the International Diabetes Federation, and supported by an educational grant from Lilly Diabetes.
