The Google Drive app for iPhone allows you to add documents and other files but you need the Google Docs app to make a copy of an existing online document. They seem to have buried this function under 'Share & Export'.

Steps

  1. 1
    Install the Docs app (iPhone).
  2. 2
Hit the Word icon in Drive. It will send the file to the Docs app.
  3. 3
Click the 'options' box to the right-side of the file. It will give you a drop-down list: Rename; Share & export; Keep on device; Details and Remove.
  4. 4
    Choose Share & export.
  5. 5
    Choose Make a copy.
