Cross Registration

Fall Cross Registration Deadline: September 19, 2014
Spring Cross Registration Deadline: February 13, 2015

Faculty of Arts and Sciences students may cross-register into courses at other Harvard faculties and approved non-Harvard institutions. The courses taken must cover subjects not available under this faculty. Information regarding the course offerings at other Harvard faculties is available via the cross-registration website.  Courses taken by cross-registration should NOT be listed on the study card. Instead, the cross-registration placeholder should be included on the study card in order to confirm intent to enroll in the course. Full-time students in the professional schools of Harvard University, the Tufts University Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Brown University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology may take courses offered by the Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

FAS Cross Registration

GSAS students may audit or take for credit courses given by other Harvard faculties (except for the Harvard Extension School and the Harvard Summer School), and courses given by the Episcopal Divinity School, the Tufts University Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Brown University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. For further information students should refer to the Handbook for Students. (Special Students should contact the Special Students office for possible variations.) All Harvard graduate students who wish to cross register into a course offered by other Harvard Faculties may create and submit a petition online. To cross-register into MIT, Fletcher, EDS, or Brown, please print the Non-Harvard petition form.

Harvard College students who wish to enroll in courses given by other Faculties of the University may create and submit a petition online. However, students may not enroll for degree credit in Harvard Extension School courses, Radcliffe Seminars, or in courses not given by one of the Faculties of Harvard University and MIT. Harvard College students interested in cross registering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (including the Harvard-MIT Program in Health Sciences and Technology) should complete this form.

To petition to receive concentration credit for a course please complete this petition signed off by your department and submit to 20 Garden Street by the 5th Monday of the term in which you are taking the course. If you have not yet declared your concentration you may petition for concentration credit retroactively by the fifth Monday of your fourth term in residence.

Non-FAS Cross Registration

Students taking FAS courses are subject to all the FAS regulations and deadlines unless your own school deadlines are earlier. For more information regarding FAS add, drop, withdrawal deadlines click here. Students who file a drop at their home school after our drop deadline will be withdrawn (rather than dropped) from the course. The option to enroll in an FAS course Pass/Fail is not open to cross registered students. The option to take designated language courses on a Sat/Uns basis is also not available to cross registered students. Students cross registered in FAS courses that have a final exam scheduled by the Registrar’s Office (these courses have an Exam Group number associated with the course in the course catalog) must take the exam on the date and time of the scheduled exam or risk receiving a failing grade of ABS.
