How to Make a To Do List
Do you want to make a To Do list for your child, spouse, or even yourself? Read this article to find out how!
EditSteps
-
1Think of everything you/they need to do. State it clearly, and use proper English. Instead of writing "grocery store," write "Go to the grocery store to buy some more Chunky Monkey ice cream".Ad
-
2Use good handwriting. If you can't read it, what's the point?
-
3Make it noticeable. Write in bright colors or put it in a noticeable place, because they might not do it if they can't see it!
-
4Put a date or day on it. It helps a lot if they know when to do it by, so they can feel ahead of their schedule.
-
5Organize the list to get it done quickly. If it's a Christmas list, group items by store or shopping center. Then organize it to minimize travel distance between stops. You can save hours by planning properly.
-
6Prioritize the most important things first. If it's a repair list (around the house), put the most important problems first. If it's a big list, break it into manageable or incremental one-weekend or one-day projects.Ad

EditTips
- It might help if you number them or put bullets beside them.
- It might help if you put some times like: 12:30-1:00---wash the dog.
- Break larger projects into small steps. For instance, instead of "Plan vacation," the entries could be "Call travel agent," "Pick up brochures," "Buy tickets," "Call Jodi to feed dog," etc.
- Try writing a to-do list on a computer program such as Ever-Note. That way you can sync your list across all your devices(desktops, laptops, tablets, etc.), and you can easily edit it.
- Try writing your list in a bright, neon color. People remember things when it's written in a bright color, especially yellow.
EditWarnings
- Don't put more than 7 high-priority items on your list for any day. No one can do more than that, you'll only get discouraged. If you have more than 7 high-priority items, divide them up over two or more days. To do lists are supposed to help alleviate stress, not cause more.
EditThings You'll Need
