How to Break Up a Fight Between Two People
Ever had your two best friends fighting each other, with you right in the middle? Here's how you break the ice.
EditSteps
-
1Say something totally random.' The goal is to distract the two fighting people from the topic. The result varies. If it is a heated fight, it's best not to do this. If it is just starting, and it's over something pointless, take this into consideration.Ad

2Get right in between the two people. This usually works whether a physical fight is at foot or a flurry of insults. If it is physical, beware of receiving some punches. If you do get punched, do not get upset at the person who delivered the blow. It will only make the matters worse.
-
3Get their attention. This includes screaming hey, snapping, clapping, etc.
-
4Talk it out. Don't be like the annoying guidance counselor, it will only make the two even madder. Say something like, "Hey! This isn't that big of a deal, let's just calm down, k?" Not, "Hey! Did you just punch him? Now why would you do that? Is that something Jesus would do? Would your mother be proud of that? Would you like it if I did that to you? Now I want you to apologize right now..."
-
5Forget all of this nonsense. Do not try to break up a fight if it isn't your job (i.e bouncer, cop, teacher, etc). You will get hurt, or distract one of the fighters causing him to sustain a serious hit, or otherwise make the situation worse. Go ahead and read any number of newspaper articles about people who get maimed and killed trying to "break up fights". If you see a fight, just watch and stay out of it. If a friend of yours is in a fight, either let him fight his battles or jump in and help him, do NOT grab him and try to stop the fight, you will cause your friend to get hit and he will be unable to retaliate. If somebody is being unfairly beaten badly, don't try to "break up the fight", either attack the the aggressor while he is distracted, call the authorities, or mind your own business.Ad
