How to Prepare for a Regatta
Ever get that nervous feeling before one of those big races? Do you always get last place by far? Perhaps you didn't prepare correctly!
EditSteps
-
1Fill all chips, scratches, or any breaks in the fiberglass.Ad
-
2Use a racing sail. Fit it on correctly. A racing sail is a sturdy, good sail that catches and uses wind better than a sail that is used frequently.
-
3Pack some essentials, a water bottle and sunglasses/hat might be all you need!
-
4Calm down.
-
5Take a look at the course from land. See what side has more wind by looking at the ripples. More ripples and dark spots mean more wind.
-
6Know where the wind is coming from. You might want to write this information down.
-
7Find out where the currents are. Avoid all whirlpools.
-
8Rig you boat with care! Pull the outhaul and the halyards as tight as it can go.
-
9If using a spinnaker, make sure the skipper knows how to communicate with the crew. He or she has to be able to tell the crew how far of a degree he or she is turning.
-
10Keep bailing! Depending on how big the boat is, keep all water out!Ad
