As PCs are more and more common over time, software usages have also increased rapidly. However, sometimes it can get frustrating to have lots of softwares installed--it takes up a lot of space in C: drive for windows users, especially for laptops, and it requires time to install--so it may be a good idea to create some portable softwares.

Steps

  1. 1
Download Thinstall Virtualization Suite (or VMware ThinApp) and install it for evaluation purpose only. After installation, both works the same with only slight differences, so the information here would be general.

  2. 2
Start Thinstall Virtualization Suite (or VMware ThinApp).
  3. 3
Before pressing "Next" to scan the settings and registration keys before installation, remember to select the drive where you are going to install(normally it would be C: drive) and tick the boxes mentioned to scan the registration keys(e.g.HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, HKEY_USER...).
  4. 4
Wait for a moment, please be patient.
  5. 5
After the scan finishes, install the program you wish to create a portable version as you would normally do but do not run the program afterwards.
  6. 6
Click "Next" once more to scan again. This step is to compare the differences before and after the installation, so we could know what details are altered and then duplicate them.
  7. 7
Then it would ask you to choose an entry. Choose the main program only, which would look like *****.exe. For example, for KM Player it would be KMPlayer.exe, for RealPlayer it would be realplay.exe, for BitComet it would be BitComet.exe......etc.
  8. 8
Choose where you would like it to be saved, and Select "WriteCopy" mode if necessary.
  9. 9
Again, if necessary, click on "Package.ini" then change "CompressionType=None" to "CompressionType=Fast" and save, otherwise select Fast if the option is provided.
  10. 10
Next, delete useless folders in the folder where you indicated to save, which would be those except "%ProgramFilesDir%", "%SystemRoot%", and "%SystemSystem%".
  11. 11
Click "create" in the window or "build.bat" in the folder.
  12. 12
Go to the folder and look inside for a folder named "bin". The file should be in there. Double click to see if it is working properly. Should be.
  13. 13
    Enjoy!
