How to Install Dec's Tru64 Unix Within Personal Alpha
This guide details how to install the arcane and ancient OS Tru64 UNIX (v 4.1A) within an ALPHA emulator (PersonalAlpha).
EditSteps
-
1Download PersonalAlpha from .http://www.personalalpha.com/.Ad
-
2Create a new hard disk image using the utility provided located in the PersonalAlpha folder.
-
3Open PersonalAlpha. Under DKA0, select the disk image you have created (this emulates a device).
-
4Under DKA100, point to your DEC Tru64 UNIX disk image ISO.
-
5Begin the simulation. You will be brought into an emulated BIOS screen. Type "BOOT DKA100", which will boot the Tru64 ISO as if it were really inside the machine.
-
6Follow the on-screen instructions. Default partitioning is fine if you are an average user. After installation you will be asked to reboot. When you run the simulation again, this time you must boot from the hard drive by typing in "BOOT DKA0". Enjoy your foray into a 64-bit UNIX operating system.Ad

EditTips
- After you have finished installation, you may need to configure networking. Use the sysadmin tool which is provided.
- Tru64 UNIX is not a current operating system. As a result, modern programs may not fully work unless you use a packaging system such as pkgsrc.
