How to Prevent Your Computer From Waking on Its Own
For some people you may notice that when you put your computer/laptop to sleep or to standby mode that it wakes up all by itself. Surprisingly this is not caused by a ghost! It is actually caused by your internet connection.

1Boot the computer to your desktop screen

2If you have a full keyboard, hold your Windows logo key and strike the Pause/Break key, typically located above the arrows or number pad. If you do this, skip the next three steps.

3Open Windows Explorer by holding the Windows logo key and striking the E key, or finding Windows Explorer in your Start menu.

4Right-click My Computer.

5Select Properties.

6Click the Hardware tab.

7Click Device Manager.

8Click the + in front of Network Adapters.

9Right-click the name of your network device and select Properties.

10Click the Power Management tab.

11Uncheck Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby.

12Click ok.

13Close all windows.
