Do you have Vonage but you can't talk on your fax machine's phone? The only other phones are in other rooms? Read this!

    Look at the back of your Vonage router. (The box Vonage sends you.)

    The green-colored phone port (port 1) should go to the wall.

    Unplug the cable from the wall and plug it into the fax machine's "in port". (May be labeled as IN or LINE)

    With the other phone cord, plug the fax machine's "out port" into the wall. (May be labeled as OUT, EXT. or TEL.)

    Check the fax handset. If you don't get a dial tone, check your steps.
  6. 6
    Check the other phones. If you don't get a dial tone, your fax machine may not work with this. Check your steps.

  • Make sure in step 4 that you connect the cord to the OUT port, not the one for the handset. The handset cord is usually a smaller version of the phone cord.
  • Another way you COULD do it is getting a phone jack splitter (one to two) and plugging one to the wall and the other to the fax machine's "IN".

EditWarnings

  • Do note that if you pick up the fax machine's handset that you can't pick up on the other phones. This is just a makeshift way of getting it done.
  • If a person talks on the phone while the fax machine is connected by either of the two above ways, you can't print or copy with the fax machine if it has those abilities. It will wait until the person hangs up. To avoid this, unplug the fax machine cable when you need to use it.
