How to Donate Hair to People in Need
Donating hair can make a huge difference to a child who is experiencing hair loss. You can be the person to do that if you follow these simple steps!
EditSteps
-
1Locate an organization.Ad
-
2Locate a salon. If you already have a hairdresser (which you probably do), great, you can move onto Step 3. But for those of you who don't, go around to different salons and meet different hairdressers. When you find one you like, you have found the person who is going to cut your hair.
-
3Make sure your hair is long enough. Hair has to be 10 inches (25.4 cm) for Locks of Love, 12 inches (30.5 cm) for Wigs for Kids.
-
4Put hair into ponytail. Make sure there is 1⁄2 inch (1.3 cm) of space left above the ponytail, as you will need to cut there.
-
5Cut the ponytail. This is it! A few snips and your hair is gone.
-
6Mail ponytail. Send it to the organization.Ad
We could really use your help!

EditTips
- Nervous? Don't be! It's just hair; it'll grow back!
- Some salons will cut hair for free if donating. Just putting it out there.
- Bushy hair? Now that's a problem. Either do something to straighten your hair or wait a little longer for your hair to grow out more.
EditWarnings
- Do NOT fall for scams! Some businesses say they are donating hair to children, when they are actually selling it to non-charity wig-makers!
